Background: The Energy Benchmarking Program kicked off in 2019 with 90 participating properties and grew to 143 properties in 2022. Energy data collected through the program creates an understanding of how energy use from our community contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Each year the program compiles a benchmarking report to highlight how many buildings participated, what the average EUI (energy use intensity) of the buildings is compared to national average, and what percentage of greenhouse emissions program participants are contributing. Benchmarking a building creates a baseline of energy use to track improvements in EUI and greenhouse gas emission reductions over time. The 2021 Benchmarking Report can be found here.

City of Rochester Launching Third Year of Energy Benchmarking Program

March 18, 2020 – ROCHESTER, MINN. – The Rochester Energy Benchmarking Program provides a way for local business and building owners to track their energy use and identify ways to save money on utility bills. The program kicked off in 2019 with 90 participants and continues to build out Rochester’s energy data set, encouraging additional facilities to participate and demonstrate energy reductions. In 2020, the number of participants in the benchmarking program grew to 112 properties, including the program’s first hotel. The 2019 Benchmarking Report can be found here.

There will be a virtual kick-off event on March 24, 2021 at Noonto introduce the program and participation benefits. Speakers will include Mayor Kim Norton, local utility partners and current participants. Building owners, managers and operators of commercial buildings of any size are encouraged to attend and may register here.

The program will provide valuable information to help identify potential energy efficiency opportunities, save money, and learn how to benchmark your building efficiently using new, automated utility data tools. • Property address
  • Property Use Details
  • Total Gross Floor Area of Property**
  • Year Built
  • Occupancy (%)
  • 2020 digital or paper utility bills for all RPU, Minnesota Energy Resources, and City of Rochester water accounts. Invoices must cover consumption from Jan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020. This may require 13 utility bills, so take a look at the dates for the bills.

*Additional required information varies by building type. Refer to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager’s Data Collection Worksheet.

2016 “Be Bright” ENERGY STAR® LED Campaign

Monday, September 26th, 2016

MNS1007_poster_v1_17x11_UTIL:Layout 1.qxd

Be Bright this fall! Through December 31, while supplies last, our residential electric customers are eligible for reduced pricing on ENERGY STAR® qualified LED light bulbs at participating local and area retailers, for as little as $0.99 each. Rochester retailers this year include Arrow Ace Hardware, Batteries Plus Bulbs, Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Sam’s Club, and Walmart.

ENERGY STAR-labeled LEDs use 80% less energy and last up to 25 times longer than incandescent light bulbs – but less watts doesn’t mean less light! LEDs produce bright light for less cost because they use less electricity and last longer than incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs – saving time and money on replacements.

By replacing the five most used bulbs in your home with energy-efficient LEDs, you can save about $40 in energy costs during the first year alone. LEDs also produce less heat than incandescents – improving safety.

While these financial savings are a big draw, LEDs also offer environmental benefits to help make our community a little greener.

Remember, supplies are limited, so get your discounted LEDs before they sell out! Discounted LEDs purchased during this promotion are not eligible for our LED rebate program.
