Correction to previous news reports on theft of RPU wire

The loss of wire infrastructure is a concern, but a larger concern is the danger that is posed when unqualified people are near and in contact with potentially energized services. If you see people near exposed wires and you aren’t sure if they are RPU employees, please call RPU at 507-280-1500.

Below is the Post Bulletin story from 7-31-08 stating the correction.

A theft of electrical wire this week in northwest Rochester cost $10,000 in replacement and repair costs, but only $100 worth of wire was stolen, not $10,000 as originally reported, Rochester Public Utilities spokesman Tony Benson said Thursday.

RPU workers noticed the theft Monday at Kenosha Drive and 35th Street Northwest and reported it Tuesday. The aluminum and copper wire was pulled from the ground.

The theft occurred at a work site at Kenosha Drive and 35th Street Northwest.
