RPU warns of dangers associated with meter tampering

Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) is aware of a number of recent meter tampering incidents in Rochester. Tampering with or removing an electric meter is against the law and could be fatal.

In an effort to ensure safety for customers and RPU employees, RPU is asking all customers to visually inspect their meter for tampering or damage. If you feel that someone has tried to disconnect or damage your electric meter, please contact RPU at 507.280.1500 to have it inspected.

Never go near a meter that you suspect has been tampered with and never make contact with it or try to repair it yourself. RPU lineworkers and meter technicians are trained to safely work with meters and high voltage electricity.
