    Sara,
I just bought an old 1900 house and I was wanting to insulate the walls and attic - is there anything particular that I have to follow to qualify for the rebate? Do I then just send you a receite in the mail?? and do you know anyone good in Rochester who pumps insulation into old walls?

    Thank you for your time

    Hi Elizabeth-

In order to qualify for the tax incentive the insulation project must be on your primary residence. Also the insulation must meet the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Make sure to keep a record of the manufactures certification statement along with your receipts for the insulation. Once the project is complete you may request a tax credit of 30% of the total cost of the project- this caps at $1,500- on your 2009 taxes using IRS tax form 5695.

As for installing insualtion, I would recomdend starting with an energy audit of the house that you are remodeling. The auditor can inspect your house and make recomendations accordingly. RPU offers rebates for $40. If your interested please email me at sgimberline@rpu.org

    Thanks,
    Sara
